Job summary

Pareto FM is seeking an experienced Building Services Engineer to manage day-to-day maintenance of mechanical and electrical building services at a client site in Milton Keynes. The role covers PPM, reactive maintenance, fault finding and BMS monitoring.

You will work with the site Contract Manager and receive support from broader engineering teams, ensuring safe, compliant operations and timely maintenance across plant and systems.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical discipline.
• Proven Building Services / M&E maintenance experience.
• Strong understanding of Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
• Good fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
• Strong communication skills and client-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across mechanical and electrical plant and building services.
• Respond to reactive faults and breakdowns, carry out fault finding and repairs.
• Use the BMS for first-line diagnostics and monitor HVAC to maintain comfortable environments.
• Complete PPM records with accurate documentation and photos when required.
• Maintain site logbooks and compliance records (electrical, mechanical, water, safety).
• Identify and escalate defects, hazards and statutory maintenance needs beyond capability.
• Perform plant start-up/shutdown/changeover and routine checks.
• Conduct regular plant-room inspections and building-services checks.
• Carry out maintenance, repairs and small installation works.
• Review and monitor specialist subcontractors on site.
• Complete test reports and service reports for compliance.
• Safely isolate electrical and pressure systems as required.
• Communicate clearly with client, Contract Manager and engineers.

Building Services Engineer – M\u2011E

Location: Milton Keynes

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am–-4:00pm

We’re looking for an experienced Building Services Engineer to join our engineering team, taking responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of mechanical and electrical building services at one of our client sites.

This is a hands‑on M\u2011E maintenance position covering planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, HVAC, BMS and general building services. You’ll work closely with the site-based Contract Manager and have support from our wider engineering and operational teams.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll help keep the site safe, compliant and running effectively, with responsibilities including:

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across mechanical and electrical plant and building services.


• Responding to reactive faults and breakdowns, carrying out fault finding and repairs.


• Using the BMS for first‑line diagnostics, responding to alarms and helping maintain comfortable environmental conditions through the HVAC systems.


• Completing PPM records accurately, including photographic evidence where required.


• Maintaining site logbooks and records covering electrical, mechanical, water, health & safety and statutory compliance.


• Identifying and escalating defects, hazards and any statutory maintenance that cannot be completed.


• Carrying out plant start‑up, shutdown, changeover and routine operational checks.


• Undertaking regular plant‑room and building‑services inspections.


• Carrying out maintenance, repairs and small installation works.


• Reviewing and monitoring specialist subcontractors while they are working on site.


• Completing test reports, service reports and other compliance documentation.


• Safely isolating electrical and pressure systems as required.


• Communicating clearly with the client, end users, Contract Manager, Contract Support and other engineers.


• Helping maintain clean, safe and well‑organised plant areas.

What we’re looking for

You’ll already have experience working within Building Services, Facilities Management or M\u2011E maintenance, with a good understanding of planned and reactive maintenance.

Essential

• City & Guilds Level 3 in an Electrical or Mechanical discipline.


• Proven Building Services / M\u2011E maintenance experience.


• Strong understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.


• Good fault‑finding and problem‑solving ability.


• Strong communication skills and a professional, client‑focused approach.


• Ability to work safely and maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records.

It Would Also Be Advantageous If You Have

• 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.


• IOSH Working Safely.


• PASMA and/or IPAF (1b / 3a / 3b).


• Unvented hot water systems training.


• Experience with BMS, controls, HVAC and/or generator systems.


• ACOP L8 and water systems knowledge.

The team

You’ll report directly to a site‑based Contract Manager, with remote Contract Support helping with the administration and coordination of the contract.

You’ll also have access to Pareto FM’s wider engineering and operational teams, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, communication and consistent engineering standards.

The standard working hours are 7:00am–-4:00pm, Monday to Friday. There may occasionally be a requirement for overtime during evenings, weekends or public holidays depending on client and business requirements; regular overtime is not guaranteed.
