Job summary

Home Bargains is recruiting Building Maintenance Engineers for our brand-new Distribution Centre in Doncaster. You will join the Engineering and Facilities team, supporting commissioning, developing maintenance strategies, and establishing engineering standards for a safe, reliable operation from day one.

As operations begin, you will handle preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns, supervise 3rd party contractors, manage spares, and ensure safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship desirable or qualifications in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mix of electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics preferable.
  • Welding experience preferable (training provided).
  • Working at heights essential.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong problem solving and fault diagnosis skills.
  • Ability to plan and organise work schedules between production requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance: execute scheduled PPM tasks per CMMS standards.
  • Fault finding and rectification to ensure operational efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Handle repair and work requests for distribution centre, offices, and related equipment.
  • Supervise on-site contractors and ensure documentation and safety compliance.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of critical spares within inventory control system.
  • Ensure safety policies are followed, especially when working at height or in confined spaces.
  • Contribute to CMMS development and coach technicians and apprentices.
  • Escalate issues to Building Maintenance Team Manager for resolution.

Job description

We're now recruiting Building Maintenance Engineers to join the Engineering and Facilities team at our brand-new Distribution Centre in Doncaster. This is a unique opportunity to be part of one of the UK's largest distribution centre developments, joining the site during its construction and commissioning phases before operations begin. Reporting to the Building Maintenance Manager, you'll work closely with Technicians, contractors, and automation partners to prepare the site for operational handover. Supporting commissioning activities, developing maintenance strategies, and helping establish engineering standards and processes, you'll play a key role in creating a safe, reliable, and high-performing operation from day one. Once the site becomes operational, you'll be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, responding quickly to breakdowns to minimise downtime, and ensuring the distribution centre, office facilities, and building infrastructure continue to operate safely and efficiently. Working as part of a skilled Engineering and Facilities team, you'll contribute to a culture of continuous improvement while helping shape the future of maintenance within one of the UK's most advanced automated distribution centres.

Requirements

Salary & Working hours
  • £44,311.54 per annum (plus 19% night shift allowance paid between 10pm - 6am)
  • Average 38.61 hours per week
  • 3 on 3 off - 12 hour shifts
  • 6pm to 6am

Job Overview
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance: Execute all scheduled PPM tasks in a timely manner, ensuring adherence to standards set by the CMMS.
  • Fault Finding and Rectification: Identify and rectify faults within the building maintenance scope, guaranteeing operational efficiency and minimizing downtime.
  • Repair and Work Requests Handling: Address repair and work requests promptly for distribution centre, office facilities, role cages, and ancillary equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Contractor Supervision: Oversee on-site 3rd party contractors, ensuring completion of all required documentation and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory of critical spares through the inventory control system to facilitate smooth maintenance operations.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safe systems of work policies and procedures, particularly when working at height or in confined spaces.
  • Asset Management and Development: Contribute to the development of the CMMS, ensuring accurate records and efficient maintenance scheduling, while also providing support and coaching to technicians and apprentices in their development plans.
  • Issue Escalation: Escalate any issues or problems encountered during planned or unplanned maintenance activities to the Building Maintenance Team Manager for resolution.
