Ready to level up with an employer's support to Class 3 and beyond?

If you are, the first step is finding an employer that works on a range of buildings, including High Rise. This ensures you’ll be working consistently with Class 3’s and 4’s, gaining experience and building your knowledge portfolio.

Next, you’ll want to know if it’s worth it. It’s important to see if there is a structured environment with ongoing attention to your salary, package, and internal grades.

Then, consider what support is available to help you achieve your goals. Are there provisions for CPD, and internal assistance when applying for new classes and categories?

Tick, tick, tick.

If you worked here, progressing through classes and categories wouldn’t just be an aspiration – it would be an opportunity.

The role offers experience on various building types, primarily commercial and higher-risk buildings of different kinds. You can leverage your existing experience and knowledge to advance and earn at the appropriate level.

They don’t treat you as a depreciating asset or sweat you excessively.

You’re given opportunities to grow and progress. They provide internal classes to support new competencies and evidence collection as needed. You’ll participate in live projects of various kinds.

They’ll offer interview practice, pay your fees, and provide proper pay rises upon progression.

There’s plenty of variety to keep you engaged, including consultancy opportunities and collaboration with other disciplines related to building regulations. There’s ample space and depth for you to explore these areas here.

You’ll start with 29 days holiday from day one, increasing by one day each year until reaching 33 days, excluding bank holidays. What would you do with that extra time?

Even if you have experience with only one or two building types, that’s not a problem here or a barrier to your progression. Opportunities to learn and grow into new areas are frequent.

What you’ll be doing
  • Communicating with clients regularly, managing and advising to prevent issues later.
  • Providing early technical advice.
  • Working closely with developers and builders to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
  • Checking plans for compliance across various building types.
  • Managing your workload, balancing site visits and office work as suited to your projects.
  • Recording inspection details systematically.
  • Building good relationships with clients and other disciplines.
What you’ll need
  • Registered with BSR, minimum 2A, or equivalent grades within class 2.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Relevant experience in plan checking and site visits.
  • Good knowledge of Building Regulations.
