Job summary

Sandwell Council’s Place Division is seeking an experienced Business Manager - Building Control to join its Building Control team in Oldbury on a full-time, permanent basis. The role leads a high-performing Building Control service, reporting to the Head of Planning and Building Control, and delivering a customer-focused, commercially driven service.

Qualifications

• Degree in Building Control or related discipline is required.
• Member of a professional body with eligibility for Building Safety Regulator registration (Class 2F/4).
• Significant Building Control experience including complex applications.
• Experience of income generation, budget management and business planning.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional and technical leadership to Building Control teams.
• Ensure compliance with Building Regulations and Building Safety Regulator requirements.
• Lead on delivery and continuous improvement of service.
• Manage complex projects including major commercial developments.
• Oversee performance, quality assurance, and customer service standards.
• Develop policies and innovative ways to enhance service delivery.
• Lead on enforcement matters, dangerous structures, and emergency response.
• Manage budgets, trading accounts, and income generation.
• Promote a commercial approach while protecting market share.
