Job summary

Cheshire East Council is seeking an experienced Building Control Manager to lead the Building Control team, oversee budgets, and provide professional advice to the public and elected members. You will drive compliance, safety and service standards, while contributing to strategic planning and policy development.

They will require a Chartered Building Control professional with leadership experience, strong knowledge of relevant legislation, and a commitment to delivering high-quality customer

  • Proven leadership and management experience in Building Control.
  • Registered Class 4 Technical Manager with Building Safety Regulator.
  • Chartered member of CABE or CIOB with strong legislative knowledge.

Job description

Our Building Control team is proud to be dynamic, progressive, and deeply committed to delivering safe, high-quality development across our borough. Now, we're looking for an experienced manager to lead that team into the future.

As Building Control Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing all aspects of the Council's building control functions and responsibilities, supporting the team, managing budgets and providing professional advice to a variety of key stakeholders. You will contribute to strategic decision‑making, and ensure compliance, safety, and excellent customer service across your area, as well contributing to wider Service and Corporate objectives.

About you
  • An experienced Building Control professional with significant leadership and management experience.
  • Registered at Class 4 Technical Manager with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • A chartered member of a recognised professional body (e.g. CABE, CIOB).
  • Technically strong with excellent knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Proactive, flexible, and skilled in managing and motivating people.
  • Committed to delivering high standards and making a positive community impact.

About the Role
  • Lead, deliver and manage all aspects of Building Control functions and responsibilities
  • Support the Head of Planning to deliver wider service objectives and priorities
  • Provide high-quality professional advice on building control matters to the public, elected members and other Council services
  • Respond to the national agenda and legislative change for Building Control
  • Manage and control budgets and resources to ensure targets for saving and income generation are met and providing value for money
  • Manage and oversee the most complex or high-profile applications, enforcement and investigations.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and drive performance across the professional team.
  • Mentor, guide, and support colleagues, sharing your technical expertise.
  • Respond to dangerous structures and safeguard public safety.
  • Build strong, proactive relationships with developers, agents, architects, and communities.
  • Contribute to strategic decisions, shaping policy and service development.
