Job summary

West Lancashire Borough Council's Building Control service seeks a part-time Building Inspector to manage their own caseload across the borough, covering plan checking, site inspections, enforcement and investigations of dangerous structures, with support for the Building Safety Regime. Flexible and hybrid working is offered.

The role requires Building Safety Regulator registration as a Building Inspector, minimum Class 2D, plus membership of CABE or RICS.

Qualifications

• Must have deep knowledge of Building Regulations and related legislation.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities are essential.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Act as professional lead on Building Regulations, Building Act and Building Safety Act matters.
• Manage plan checking and site inspection caseloads.
• Take enforcement action to secure compliance.
• Investigate dangerous structures and oversee demolition controls.
• Maintain accurate site records and application information.
• Support colleagues and share professional best practice.
• Prepare reports and deliver work programmes to targets.
• Act as an ambassador for the Council and ensure compliance with Building Safety Regulator requirements.
• Provide specialist support to the Building Safety Regulator.
• Deputise for the Building Control Technical Manager where appropriate.
• Support implementation of the Building Safety Regime.
