About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Contracts Manager to join our Maintenance & Facilities team at Kensington Palace.
We are looking for a dynamic and technically competent building maintenance manager with a wide skill base within an M&E and Building Fabric arena. You will be expected to manage the day-to-day maintenance service operation in the conservation, presentation, protection, and safety of Kensington Palace, Kew Palace, the Banqueting House, and the Retail Warehouse. You will help us take our charity and the stories of our palaces and people to both UK-wide and international audiences, pursuing an exciting new strategy to become a charity for everyone.
You will proactively respond to and manage M&E, & Building fabric repairs, maintenance requirements, including reactive & routine, cyclical, and minor works projects, while remaining within your allocated budgets. You will be accountable for planning, ordering, and specifying necessary works to our external contractors and in-house team. Moreover, you will deliver an exceptional visitor experience and a functional environment for our staff to work in.
You will also work closely and collaboratively with the Maintenance & Facilities Manager and across teams, providing input and advice to all HRP departments, stakeholders, and for planned and major projects. You will also deputise for the Maintenance and Facilities Managers when necessary.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience, preferably in an historic environment, with identifying and resolving building defects, undertaking condition surveys, and planning for repair works within a busy public visitor setting. Strong organisation and strategic planning skills, as well as the ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment, are also required.
You will be a team player, excited by HRP’s work, and able to communicate that enthusiasm to all contractors, stakeholders, and the wider public.
