Job summary

Sandwell Deaf Community Association is seeking a British Sign Language interpreter to provide BSL/English interpreting across a range of environments. The role requires clear communication and professionalism to support service users.

You will handle face-to-face and remote interpreting, prepare vocabulary as needed, translate correspondence, liaise with colleagues, and attend team meetings, with opportunities for ongoing professional development and safeguarding responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face to face and/or remote BSL/English interpreting in a variety of environments.
  • Make preparations wherever necessary, including specialist vocabulary and the subject/person(s) involved.
  • Translate correspondence and phone calls.
  • Liaise with team members regarding work.
  • Undertake continuous professional development as appropriate and in line with the needs of the service.
  • Attend regular team meetings.
  • To represent SDCA at events and meetings as necessary.
  • Any other duties as may be appropriate to achieve the objectives of the post or to assist SDCA in the fulfilment of its objectives in line with the post holders grade, abilities and aptitudes.
  • To ensure that comments/complaints are dealt with in accordance with the SDCA's procedure.
  • To comply with and actively promote SDCA policies.
  • Ensure safeguarding responsibilities are upheld at all times, in line with organisational and local safeguarding procedures.
