Job role: BSL Certified Teaching Assistant

Location: Barnet

Hours: Full-time and part-time

Purpose of the job: Working under the direction of the Class Teacher to enable access to learning for pupils, and to assist in managing pupils and the classroom. This includes supporting pupils with hearing impairments to access the curriculum, participate in learning, and develop independence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students in various educational activities, inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs as required.
  • Complete tasks set by the class teacher.
  • Work with small groups or 1-2-1 support.
  • Undertake all required training.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • School-based SEN experience
  • Makaton or BSL - Level 2 and above
  • Empathetic and caring personality
  • Relevant qualification in special education or related field (desirable)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of SEN strategies
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding and health & safety
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one
