Job summary

AECOM in Manchester seeks a Bridge Engineer with experience in bridge design, inspection, assessment and refurbishment to join the Bridges and Structures team. The office has delivered rail and road projects for over 40 years with a track record across the UK and abroad.

You will work on inspection to detailed design, supervise graduates when appropriate, and contribute to tendering and project management. A hybrid work model and opportunities for professional development are available.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • MSc level or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Graduate Member with ICE and IStructE and commitment to chartership.
  • Experience with bridge and related structural inspection, assessment and design schemes.
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards and assessment codes.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Experience in the design of concrete, steel, timber and masonry structures.
  • Design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
  • Experience in road, rail and water bridge projects.
  • Experience in working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design; ability to support teams of graduates and technicians.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety responsibilities including CDM compliance.
  • Current clean driving license and willingness to travel throughout the UK to visit sites.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake rail and road bridges and related structural engineering schemes from inspection and assessment through feasibility to detailed design.
  • Assist with supervision of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate.
  • Assist with preparation of technical documentation through to client sign-off of Technical Approval documentation.
  • Hands-on technical design on road and/or rail structures.
  • Hands-on assessment of road and/or rail structures.
  • Structural inspections and reporting.
  • Excellent technical and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Assist with preparation of tenders including quality documentation and costings.
  • Assist with project management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.

We are recruiting for a Bridge Engineer with experience in bridge design, inspection, assessment and refurbishment schemes to join the Manchester Bridges and Structures team. Our Manchester office has a long track record of delivering bridge engineering schemes for over 40 years across the UK and abroad. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. Clients include private and public sector organisations and long-term framework agreements with local authorities and design and build contractors.
