Job summary

Matchtech is seeking an experienced bridge design engineer in Leeds to provide design input for bridge and multidisciplinary civil-structural projects across the UK and Ireland. You will work under the guidance of senior bridge teams in Ireland and the UK, contributing to schemes from early feasibility through to construction support.

The role requires a minimum of three years post-qualification experience in bridge design, with progression toward chartered status.

Qualifications

• Three years' post-qualification experience in bridge detailed design.
• Chartered status with ICE/IStructE or working towards it.
• Good knowledge of structural analysis software including finite element analysis.
• Ability to undertake bridge structure analytical modelling, including construction stage and finite element analysis.

Responsibilities

• Work on existing and new bridge and civil structures across various materials and forms (superstructure, substructure, foundations).
• Participate in early project stages: scoping, surveys, optioneering and scheme design.
• Undertake preliminary and detailed design, including analytical modelling and calculations.
• Assist in production of drawings and technical reports.
• Prepare contract documents and specifications.
• Support delivery of projects within agreed timeframes and provide construction stage technical support.
• Interface with clients, authorities, consultants and contractors.

Job description

As an experienced bridge design engineer, you will provide valuable design input to our clients bridges and multidisciplinary civil-structural engineering projects. You will be supported throughout by senior members of our bridge teams in Ireland and the UK.

Duties and responsibilities

• Work with existing and new bridge and civil structures across a range of materials and forms, superstructure, substructure, foundation and articulation elements
• Participate in early project stages, including scoping, specifying and interpreting surveys, inspection and investigative works, optioneering and scheme design
• Undertake preliminary and detailed design work, including structural analytical modelling, calculations etc.
• Assisting in the production of drawings
• Prepare documents, including technical reports, specifications and contract documents
• Supporting the delivery of projects within agreed timeframes
• Undertake independent design checking and provide construction stage technical support
• Interface with clients from local and national authorities, consultants and design-and-build contractors amongst others

Essential requirements

• A minimum of three years' post-qualification experience in bridge detailed design
• Working towards chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or equivalent
• Good knowledge of structural analysis software including finite element analysis
• Ability to undertake bridge structure analytical modelling, including construction stage and finite element analysis
• Good technical knowledge of bridge design
• Meticulous in the detailing of bridge structures

Desirable

• Good knowledge of and experience in the use of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and other standards and legislation in the field of bridge/structural design
• Working knowledge of Eurocodes in the field of bridge design
• Experience of working independently on detailed bridge design
