Job summary

Matchtech in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced bridge design engineer to contribute to our bridge and multidisciplinary civil-structural projects. You will be supported throughout by senior members of our bridge teams in Ireland and the UK.

You will engage in design, modelling and drawings, working towards chartered status with ICE, IStructE or equivalent, and you will apply strong knowledge of structural analysis software and analytical modelling to deliver robust bridge solutions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years' post-qualification experience in bridge detailed design.
• Working towards chartered status with ICE, IStructE or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of structural analysis software including finite element analysis.
• Ability to undertake bridge structure analytical modelling, including construction stage analysis.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to bridge and civil-structural projects across materials and forms.
• Assist in early design stages: scoping, surveys, option selection.
• Perform preliminary and detailed design work and related calculations.
• Assist in production of drawings and technical documents.
• Support project delivery within agreed timeframes.

Job description

As an experienced bridge design engineer, you will provide valuable design input to our clif ents bridges and multidisciplinary civil-structural engineering projects. You will be supported throughout by senior members of our bridge teams in Ireland and the UK.

Duties and responsibilities

• Work with existing and new bridge and civil structures across a range of materials and forms, superstructure, substructure, foundation and articulation elements
• Participate in early project stages, including scoping, specifying and interpreting surveys, inspection and investigative works, optioneering and scheme design
• Undertake preliminary and detailed design work, including structural analytical modelling, calculations etc.
• Assisting in the production of drawings
• Prepare documents, including technical reports, specifications and contract documents
• Supporting the delivery of projects within agreed timeframes
• Undertake independent design checking and provide construction stage technical support
• Interface with clients from local and national authorities, consultants and design-and-build contractors amongst others

Essential requirements

• A minimum of three years' post-qualification experience in bridge detailed design
• Working towards chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or equivalent
• Good knowledge of structural analysis software including finite element analysis
• Ability to undertake bridge structure analytical modelling, including construction stage and finite element analysis
• Good technical knowledge of bridge design
• Meticulous in the detailing of bridge structures

Desirable

• Good knowledge of and experience in the use of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and other standards and legislation in the field of bridge/structural design
• Working knowledge of Eurocodes in the field of bridge design
• Experience of working independently on detailed bridge design
