Job summary

We are seeking a motivated Bricklaying Tutor to join our Industries Department at HMP & YOI Peterborough. You will help learners develop practical trade skills and credentials, building confidence for life after release.

Strong trade knowledge and clear communication are essential, with a commitment to helping people progress. A teaching or assessor qualification and experience in a prison environment would be advantageous, but not essential.

• Experience as a qualified bricklayer with strong practical skills.
• A teaching or assessor qualification would be advantageous.

• Ability to explain techniques clearly and build positive relationships.
• Commitment to education, rehabilitation and helping learners progress.

Responsibilities

• Plan lessons and activities that develop learners' skills toward vocational qualifications.
• Adapt teaching to suit different abilities, monitor attendance and progress, and provide feedback.
• Maintain a safe, organised learning environment and follow procedures.
• Work with colleagues to improve training and support each learner's development.
• Support learners to prepare for employment on release.

Job description

• Plan lessons and activities that develop learners' skills and support them towards vocational qualifications.
• Adapt your teaching to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of confidence. Monitor attendance, progress and achievement, providing clear feedback and encouragement. Maintain a safe, organised and positive learning environment, following prison security and health and safety procedures. Work with colleagues to improve training and support each learner's development. Are you an experienced, qualified bricklayer who enjoys helping others learn? Put your skills to use in a role where you can make a lasting difference.
• Experience as a qualified bricklayer, with strong practical skills and industry knowledge.
• The ability to explain techniques clearly and build positive working relationships.
• Patience, enthusiasm and the confidence to motivate and engage learners.
• A flexible, proactive approach to supporting people with different needs.
• A commitment to education, rehabilitation and helping people achieve positive outcomes.
• A teaching or assessor qualification and/or experience in a prison environment would be advantageous.
• £32,987.47-£38,801.01 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
• 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

You'll be part of our Education, Skills & Work team, delivering practical, engaging training and supporting learners with a range of abilities and needs. Alongside teaching bricklaying, you'll encourage safe working habits, teamwork and pride in a job well done. A teaching or assessor qualification and previous prison experience would be an advantage, but neither is essential. We're looking for strong trade knowledge, clear communication and a real commitment to helping people progress.
