Job summary

Heathwood Lower School is seeking a caring Breakfast Club Assistant to support a welcoming start to the day for children aged 4 to 9. You will help prepare a healthy breakfast, supervise activities, and uphold safety and hygiene standards during breakfast club sessions.

The role is permanent and part-time, term-time only, with hours 8:00–9:00, Monday to Friday, at Heathwood Lower School. Experience in childcare is desirable, and safeguarding knowledge is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Experience with young children or in childcare settings is desirable.
• Awareness of safeguarding and health and safety practices is preferred.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve a healthy breakfast for pupils within term-time days.
• Supervise breakfast time and organise age‑appropriate activities.
• Ensure high standards of health, safety and cleanliness in dining and play areas.
• Assist with handing over children to their class teachers at start of day.

• Salary: NJC Scale Point 3-4 Pro-rata term time only

We are looking for a caring, reliable, and energetic Breakfast Club Assistant to join our dedicated wraparound care team. You will help provide a safe, welcoming, and fun start to the day for our lower school pupils. Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and serving a healthy, balanced breakfast while adhering to dietary and allergy requirements.
• Setting up and supervising engaging, age-appropriate play and quiet activities.
• Encouraging positive behaviour, good manners, and social interaction among the children.
• Ensuring high standards of health, safety, food hygiene, and cleanliness in the dining and play areas.
• Safely handing over children to their class teachers at the start of the school day.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A warm, patient, and approachable manner when working with young children (ages 4-9).
• Previous experience working or volunteering in a school or childcare setting (desirable).
• A good understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and food hygiene (training can be provided).
• Reliability, punctuality, and a proactive "can-do" attitude.
• Level 2 Childcare or Paediatric First Aid qualifications are an advantage, though a willingness to undertake training is acceptable.
