Job summary

Tjarks and Tjarks Design Group in Purley, UK is seeking a talented Brand Guideline Designer to join its dynamic guidelines team. You will translate client briefs into clear, visually compelling brand guidelines and manage projects from concept through delivery.

You will work with packaging, print processes, and artwork, ensure technical accuracy, mentor junior staff, and maintain high standards under tight deadlines in a fast-paced studio.

Qualifications

  • You will have a background in packaging artwork and design, and/or good knowledge in print processes.
  • Branding experience in a creative environment, capable of developing and implementing brand guidelines.
  • Experience crafting detailed corporate guidelines, style guides or annual reports is advantageous.
  • You are a conceptual thinker with a logical, systematic approach and an eagle eye for precision.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator and Acrobat, with strong layout skills.
  • Experience in managing projects and mentoring team members to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • You will learn quickly about the entire brand guideline process and ensure the department runs smoothly.
  • Develop brands from inception to guidelines in line with deadlines and client briefs.
  • Manage staff scheduling, weekly guideline meetings, and ensure cost-efficient turnaround within budget.
  • Oversee lifecycle of brand guidelines, ensuring all tasks meet required standards.
  • Lead and mentor the team to maintain high standards and timely delivery.
  • Provide expert advice on master elements to be prepared or retouched for guidelines.
  • Analyze projects to determine the most logical structure and content of guidelines.
  • Identify elements to include in guidelines and explain them clearly.
  • Anticipate and solve potential problems in creating new brands.
  • Set up new guidelines using templates and ensure pages are well-designed.

About the role

We are now looking for a talented and driven Brand Guideline Designer to join its dynamic brand guidelines team in a newly created, high-impact role. This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative professional who thrives on bringing brands to life - from interpreting client briefs to crafting compelling, visually engaging guidelines.

We’re seeking someone with strong branding expertise and exceptional client relationship skills, who can confidently guide projects from concept through to delivery while showcasing innovative thinking and attention to detail. A solid background in packaging design, print processes, and artwork is essential, along with proven experience in developing clear and inspiring brand or corporate guidelines.

Fluency in German is a strong advantage, and we’re looking for someone who combines efficiency with precision, as well as the ambition and drive to grow and evolve alongside the company.

About you
  • You will have a background in packaging artwork and design, and/or good knowledge in print processes.
  • Branding experience in a creative environment, experience/knowledge of the full brand lifecycle and able to develop, communicate and implement effective brand strategies and deliver against objectives and deadlines.
  • Experience in crafting detailed corporate guidelines, brand guidelines, style guides or annual reports is advantageous, you will have the ability to learn this quickly.
  • You must be a conceptual thinker and have a highly logical, systematic approach to your work.
  • You have an eagle eye to ensure a consistent, high level of precision and accuracy – you will guarantee the technical accuracy of all guidelines documentation.
  • Experience of people management and motivation would be advantageous.
  • You thrive in a deadline-driven and fast paced project environment.
  • You like to work collaboratively across teams.
  • You take complete ownership of all assigned projects from initial briefing through to final presentation.
  • You have excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • You have the ability to work independently managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • You ensure that all deadlines are met within project budgets.
  • You are fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Confident, motivated and positive attitude

  • Proficiency in business English (native/bilingual/high proficiency)
  • Meticulous attention to technical details
  • Comfortable with iterative/repetitive tasks
  • Comfortable receiving meticulous feedback and actioning such feedback to the T
  • Proficiency in InDesign, layout and InDesign automations
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines at the same time (up to 4-5 a week)
  • Ability to switch to design tasks/able to handle design tasks (light implementation for style guide purposes)
The day to day
  • You will learn quickly where required about the entire brand guideline process, your aim will be to make sure that the department is running smoothly and ensuring new and existing guidelines are to the highest standard.
  • Brand management for corporate clients which includes developing brands; the strategy of initiation of creating brands through to the creation of brand guidelines, in accordance with required deadlines.
  • Assist and/or manage staff scheduling, weekly guidelines meetings and ensure a cost efficient turnaround of all guidelines within budget.
  • Assist and/or oversee the complete internal and external lifecycle of all brand guidelines, ensuring that all tasks are carried out to the required standard.
  • Assist and/or lead and mentor the team to ensure consistent high standards, completion of all projects to deadlines and to provide continuous development.
  • Provide expert advice to the design and artwork departments about which master elements of the new brands need to be prepared, artworked or retouched before work can commence on the guidelines.
  • Systematically and logically analyse projects, and advise on the most logical structure and content of guidelines.
  • Understand which elements of the new brands need to be included, explained and detailed in the guidelines.
  • Foresee, identify, discuss and solve any potential problems in relation to creating new brands.
  • Oversee the setting up of new guidelines, based on existing templates and guideline examples including the design and layout of individual pages.
  • Ensure that all design examples within the guidelines are consistent and fully comply with all associated guidelines.
  • Ensure that guidelines are clear, logical, comprehensive and easy to understand; liaise internally to discuss, manage and implement changes until final approval.
