Job description

In line with Matalan’s strategy of putting our customers at the heart of everything we do and in line with our ambition to be the 1st choice for value for Matalan families, you will be responsible for assisting the Branch Merchandising team to optimise full price sales & minimise markdown, whilst optimising most efficient use for space in store(s) acting as a conduit between Retail & Trading Teams, to ensure the right product is in the right store(s) at the right time.

Branch Merchandising

• Ensure accurate reporting on stock and sales to highlight opportunities and risks.
• Support event and competitor analysis to inform store grading and decisions.
• Work closely with Regional Managers on store visits and share regular updates on projects.
• Lead and improve processes for new store openings, refreshes, and trials.
• Help the team track changes in store grading and plan for future seasons.
• Encourage and guide Assistant Branch Merchandisers on trial store selection and analysis.

Space Planning

• Act as the go-to expert for all space planning matters.
• Help shape both high-level and detailed space plans across the business.
• Use data tools to support seasonal planning and recommend space changes.
• Coordinate and lead Grade Reviews with key stakeholders.
• Improve processes like Linear Counting and support accurate store stock planning.
• Work on digitising space planning processes for better accuracy and efficiency.

•Previous experience within a similar role would be beneficial

•Able to communicate effectively within the team and the wider business, building strong collaborative relationships

•Strong attention to detail

•Ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines

•Full driving license (preferable)

•High energy and drive

•Strong analytical skills

•Expert understanding of Microsoft Excel; experience of SQL & Power BI beneficial
