Career Progression Opportunity at Axe Valley Vets

Ready for Your Next Step as a GP Vet - But Not Quite Ready for a Clinical Director Role?

We're looking for a confident and committed veterinary surgeon to take the reins at our newly refurbished Weston Branch (BS23 3EF). This is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants increased responsibility and leadership without stepping into a Clinical Director role.

The Role

This is a full-time position, ideally 40 hours across four days, with three days based at our Weston Branch and one day at the main practice in Blackford, however we would be open to other flexible working in regard to hours. Time in our main branch allows you to familiarise and integrate with the whole practice and benefit from their shared clinical knowledge. The ideal scenario is to have two vets every day in our Weston branch, with your experience to mentor colleagues being central to your application. There will also be some sole charge too.

Why Join Us at Axe Valley Vets?

Yes, we are corporately owned, but with a focus of clinical excellence, the previous owners are still very much involved. This is a lovely friendly practice to work in with a friendly family feel that still remains in a great part of the world.

We have a team of 10 vets. Ranging from new graduates, medicine and surgery certificate holders and experienced GP vets with 30 years' experience. Lively clinical discussions are therefore guaranteed.

You will have clinical freedom to work up your cases, but the support of an experienced team to help if needed, giving you the best of both worlds. Weston has all the facilities you will need, operating theatre, lab (Biochemistry & Haematology) X Ray, ultrasound and dental suite.

Axe Valley is a hub and spoke system with a few branches (some consult only) and one main practice, great nurses, ANAs and a reception team with RVNs at the helm all with a healthy attitude to social get togethers!

Key Responsibilities

Alongside your clinical duties, you'll play a key role in the continued growth and smooth running of the Weston Branch. This includes:

  • Day-to-day clinical leadership and support of the branch team
  • Clinical and financial reporting
  • Attending clinical, branch and management meetings
  • Supporting and promoting key initiatives
  • Providing regular feedback and input into the branch's development
  • Out of Hours & Weekend Commitment

You'll take part in our weekend and late vet rota, based out of our main Blackford surgery (currently 1 in 8 weekends and 1 late shift every other week).

Weekend hours: Saturday & Sunday, 8am-7pm

Out-of-hours care is handled by Vale Vets and SEVC

Our late vet rota covers clinically stable inpatients and urgent same-day cases (phones are diverted at 7pm)

Late Vet hours: Covering emergencies 6.30-7pm & a 10pm check in practice if any inpatients are present

We would love to hear from you if you think this would be the perfect next step in your career!
