Job summary

Marine Resources in Gosport, Hampshire, is hiring a Boatyard Operative for a hands-on, full-time role. You will help move, store and maintain vessels, operate machinery, and maintain a tidy, safe site. 39 hours per week with some weekend and out-of-hours work, dependent on experience.

The role involves day-to-day boatyard operations, equipment checks, and customer-facing duties in a busy marine environment. Training is provided where needed, with career progression opportunities available.

Qualifications

• Experience in a boatyard, marina, shipyard or marine leisure environment preferred.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physically fit with ability to perform manual handling.
• Willingness to learn and undertake training in marine operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with lifting, launching, recovery and manoeuvring of vessels.
• Support safe storage of boats ashore using cradles and stands.
• Carry out high-pressure washing and general vessel maintenance tasks.
• Assist with boat towing and pontoon movements when required.
• Operate boat hoists, mobile cranes, boat transporters, forklifts and tow boats after training.
• Complete daily equipment checks and report faults or safety concerns.
• Maintain clean, safe pontoons, walkways and storage areas.
• Provide friendly customer contact for visitors and contractors.
• Record vessel movements and maintenance in computer systems.
• Collaborate with the boatyard team for smooth daily operations.

Boatyard Operative

Location: Gosport, Hampshire

Salary: Dependent on experience

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: 39 hours per week, with occasional weekend and out-of-hours work

The Opportunity

We're recruiting for a Boatyard Operative to join an established marine operation based in Gosport, Hampshire. This is a varied, hands-on role within a busy boatyard, supporting the safe movement, storage and maintenance of vessels, as well as the general upkeep of the site. You'll be involved in day-to-day boatyard operations, operating machinery and equipment, and helping ensure customers receive a professional and friendly service.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the lifting, launching, recovery and manoeuvring of vessels.


• Support the safe storage of boats ashore using cradles, blocks and stands.


• Carry out high-pressure washing and general vessel maintenance tasks.


• Assist with boat towing and pontoon movements when required.


• Operate boat hoists, mobile cranes, boat transporters, forklifts and tow boats, subject to relevant training and authorisation.


• Complete daily equipment checks and report any faults or safety concerns.


• Carry out general site maintenance, keeping pontoons, walkways, storage areas and buildings clean, safe and tidy.


• Provide a friendly and helpful point of contact for customers, visitors and contractors.


• Record vessel movements, maintenance activities and incidents using computer-based systems.


• Work closely with the wider boatyard team to ensure the smooth running of daily operations.

What We're Looking For

Ideally, you'll have experience working within a boatyard, marina, shipyard or marine leisure environment, alongside a practical and safety-conscious approach to work.

You’ll also need:

• A reliable, positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in.


• Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.


• The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.


• A reasonable level of physical fitness and confidence with manual handling.


• Flexibility to work occasional weekends and out-of-hours shifts.


• A willingness to learn, undertake training and develop new skills.


• Basic mechanical or technical aptitude.


• A full UK driving licence would be beneficial, as would existing qualifications such as forklift, crane, slinger/signaller, PB2, VHF or first aid certification.


• Previous experience operating boatyard machinery is advantageous, but training can be provided where required.
