Job summary

Bath Spa University is seeking a hands-on BMS, Smart Technology and Controls Supervisor to lead and optimise the University’s Building Management Systems across its estate.

You will diagnose, design, program and implement control strategies, manage contractors, analyse performance data and liaise with Estates and IT to ensure secure, reliable operation. This is a Grade 7 role with a salary of £38,784–£43,482 per annum.

Qualifications

• Experience with Trend BMS or equivalent building control platforms.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills within complex electrical and control systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical, mechanical and controls schematics.
• Experience supervising contractors and supporting operational teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to analyse technical data and produce meaningful reports.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, energy management and smart building technologies.
• A proactive, solution-focused approach with strong attention to safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and optimise the University's Building Management Systems (BMS) and associated control systems.
• Act as the University's technical expert for building controls, smart technologies and IoT integration.
• Diagnose, repair and improve complex building control systems.
• Design, programme and implement control strategies and system upgrades.
• Analyse operational data to identify performance improvements and energy-saving opportunities.
• Manage specialist contractors and suppliers delivering BMS and controls services.
• Lead control system and smart technology projects from concept through to completion.
• Maintain accurate documentation including control strategies, drawings and asset records.
• Support statutory compliance and manage operational risks associated with building controls.
• Work closely with Estates and IT teams to ensure secure, reliable and resilient system operation.
• Develop staff capability through training, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
• Coordinate responses to system failures and critical incidents.
