Crucial People is seeking a Project Manager to lead nationwide, multi-site portfolios across the UK, focusing on BMS and wider building services projects. You’ll manage programmes, costs, resources and stakeholders, with option of direct BMS delivery or broader packages including decarbonisation and energy works.
The role requires travel across the country, coordinating across disciplines and sites, and developing long-term relationships with key customers on national estates.
Nationwide | Key Accounts & Multi-Site Portfolios
Up to £70,000 + Company Car or £6,825 Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
This is a broader Project Manager role than delivering individual BMS projects. You’ll work with key customers operating multi-site estates across the UK, managing projects that can range from direct BMS delivery through to wider programmes incorporating electrical, mechanical, fabric, decarbonisation, EV, energy and associated ELV works. That could mean managing a substantial project at one location or coordinating a systematic rollout across multiple sites within a customer’s national estate. For an experienced BMS or building services Project Manager, the opportunity is to broaden both the scale and range of projects you manage while developing experience of national, multi-site programme delivery.
Your role will change according to the programme and what the customer needs delivered. On some projects, you’ll directly manage BMS works, taking responsibility for programme, costs, resource, contractors, technical coordination and delivery. On others, you’ll act across a wider package of works, coordinating different disciplines around the overall project requirements. This could include electrical and mechanical works, decarbonisation, energy, PV, EV, Fabric, associated ELV packages. The delivery model can also vary considerably. One programme may involve significant work at a single location. Another could require the same solution to be coordinated and rolled out systematically across multiple sites around the UK. Throughout, you’ll be working with key customers where successful delivery across the wider estate matters, rather than treating each site as an isolated project.
The opportunity here is the breadth of project exposure. If your background is predominantly BMS project management, you can retain that controls expertise while developing experience across wider building, energy and decarbonisation projects. You’ll have the opportunity to manage direct BMS delivery while also developing your capability in multi-discipline package management. The national portfolio element adds another dimension. Managing a rollout across a customer’s estate requires you to understand how to deliver consistently across multiple locations, coordinate different workstreams and maintain the relationship with a key customer throughout the programme. That gives you experience extending beyond successfully delivering one project at a time.
You’ll need established project management experience within BMS, building services or a sufficiently relevant technical environment. A strong BMS or building controls background would give you a particularly relevant foundation for the direct BMS elements of the role, while you’ll also need the capability to coordinate wider technical packages. You’ll need to be comfortable managing contractors, programmes, costs, resources and technical interfaces while maintaining clear communication with key customers. You’ll also need to be comfortable moving between individual project delivery and the coordination of systematic multi-site programmes.
The travel requirement is significant. This is a genuinely nationwide position, with substantial travel across the UK and overnight stays required. It therefore needs someone comfortable being where the projects and customers require them to be rather than someone looking for a predominantly local portfolio. Multi-site rollouts create their own delivery challenges too. You’ll need to maintain consistent standards across different locations, coordinate multiple contractors and workstreams, and understand how an issue at one site could affect the wider programme. The breadth of technical packages also requires you to be comfortable coordinating specialists outside your own core discipline rather than trying to be the technical expert in every area.
For an established BMS Project Manager, this role offers a credible route into broader project and programme delivery. You can develop experience across electrical, mechanical, fabric, energy, EV, decarbonisation and ELV projects while continuing to use your BMS and controls background. You’ll also gain greater exposure to national portfolio delivery, where the challenge moves beyond managing one successful project to coordinating programmes across multiple locations within a key customer’s estate. The development here is therefore practical: broader technical packages, larger geographical programmes and greater experience managing complex multi-site delivery.
