Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is hiring a Transport Driver to keep blood and related products moving safely and on time, around the clock. You will work between sites, using on-board tech to track movements, perform vehicle checks, and maintain security and cleanliness of vehicles and equipment.

This hands-on role requires judgement, reliability and customer care to support clinical teams daily, with full training provided and a 24/7 rostered schedule including shifts that may be evenings and nights.

Qualifications

• Previous vocational driving experience or evidence of driving proficiency.
• Able to work with information technology such as digital hand held devices, Microsoft Office or other IT packages.
• A good geographical knowledge of the local area and road network.
• Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance checks.

Responsibilities

• Drive a range of vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes, with regional exemptions for smaller vehicles.
• Use digital hand-held devices to track work and complete records.
• Load/unload items up to 20 kg, with or without lifting aids.
• Carry out vehicle security checks, daily checks and report defects promptly.
• Support urgent blue light deliveries when required (training provided).
• Provide excellent customer care to donors, hospital staff and the public.
• Operate on a 24/7 shift system including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
