Job summary

Chester Zoo is seeking a Bird Keeper for its diverse bird sections. The role involves daily care of parrots, penguins, passerines, hornbills and pheasants, ensuring high welfare and maintenance of all enclosures.

The ideal candidate has an avicultural background, strong observational and communication skills, and a proven track record in bird husbandry within a zoological setting. 40-hour weeks with some weekends and Bank Holidays.

Qualifications

• HND or degree in zoological science or equivalent experience.
• Proven care and exhibition of birds in a zoological setting.
• Excellent avicultural knowledge and more.
• Strong work ethic and team player.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Desirable: ZIMS software proficiency and UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Care and husbandry of a wide range of bird species.
• Maintain enclosures and facilities to high welfare standards.
• Collaborate with team to deliver excellent avicultural care.
• Rostered hours include weekends and Bank Holidays.
