Job summary

Chester Zoo is seeking a Keeper for our Ectotherm Team to care for amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates. You will support animal welfare, hygiene, life support and public experiences, helping to show visitors the wonders of our collection.

This fixed-term role is 40 hours per week (10 days out of 14) with a 6-month contract, 33 days leave pro rata, and benefits including a staff pass, healthcare, pension contributions up to 9%, and staff discounts.

Qualifications

• HND or degree in zoological related science or equivalent experience.
• Experience in Zoo/Aquarium setting with relevant ectotherms (reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates).
• Observational skills, attention to detail, commitment to high animal welfare standards.
• Understanding of ex situ education, science and conservation.
• Exhibit theming skills and strong communication abilities.
• Teamwork and ability to work independently.
• Competence with computers and basic software including MS Teams and ZIMS.

Responsibilities

• Assist in animal welfare, hygiene, life support and public engagement.
• Maintain exhibits to high standards for animals and visitors.
• Provide outstanding customer care during animal experiences.
• Collaborate with team to deliver engaging zoo experiences.
