We’re building a new way to measure and understand the molecular world. We’re a stealth mode, venture-backed and grant-funded deep-tech company developing a proprietary photonic sensing platform, bringing powerful molecular measurement into miniaturised, low-cost and low-power technology.
Our mission is to make molecular changes measurable, initially focused on healthcare applications. We’re backed by leading European VCs, experienced health-tech investors and strategic operators, alongside significant non-dilutive funding from SPRIN-D, Germany’s Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation. We’re bringing together chemistry, biology and photonics to tackle difficult scientific problems and build technology with the potential for global impact.
The role
Lead our biosensing and chemistry function while working hands‑on in the lab alongside the team. You’ll design and run experiments, troubleshoot technical challenges, support aptamer development and translate biorecognition chemistry into our photonic‑based sensor. We’re looking for a technical and people leader with industry experience taking point‑of‑care or continuous‑monitoring devices through development, V&V and commercial launch.
You will own
- Technical strategy and delivery: Set priorities, milestones and experimental plans aligned with product requirements.
- Hands‑on laboratory work: Design and run experiments alongside the team, analyse results and troubleshoot chemistry and sensing performance.
- Surface chemistry and aptamer development: Support the team’s aptamer development, characterisation and optimisation, and directly contribute to functionalisation, immobilisation, antifouling and regeneration experiments.
- Photonic sensor integration: Work hands‑on with the aptamer, photonics, microfluidics and systems teams to integrate aptamers into the photonic‑based sensor, linking surface chemistry and biomolecular interfaces to optical readout and reliable performance in biological samples.
- Verification & validation: Establish test methods, acceptance criteria and documented evidence of analytical performance, reproducibility and stability.
- Team leadership: Develop the biosensing and chemistry team, with clear ownership, rigorous experimental design and effective troubleshooting.
- Scale‑up: Develop reproducible processes and quality controls for pilot builds and manufacturing transfer.
The person
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience developing point‑of‑care or continuous‑monitoring devices, including demonstrated experience taking a product through commercial launch.
- Direct experience taking products through V&V and resolving performance gaps.
- Strong expertise in biosensing, surface chemistry, biomolecular interfaces and assay development.
- Demonstrated ability to lead scientific teams and deliver across engineering, product and regulatory functions.
- Hands‑on, evidence‑led and comfortable balancing scientific depth with delivery in a startup.
Ideal requirements
- Aptamer experience, particularly immobilisation, binding kinetics, structure switching and reversible sensing.
- Optical biosensing, microfluidic or wearable‑platform experience, including assays in whole blood, plasma or ISF.
Why work for us
- Build globally leading technology: Help turn breakthrough photonic sensing research into products with the ambition to set a new standard for molecular measurement.
- Solve difficult, meaningful problems: Work hands‑on at the intersection of chemistry, biology and photonics. This is a role for someone who enjoys technical challenges, tests assumptions and finds a way forward when there is no established answer.
- Move fast with real ownership: Take responsibility for decisions, experiments and delivery in a focused startup team, with the freedom to test ideas and the rigour to know what works.
- Shape the platform and the team: Define the biosensing and chemistry direction, develop the people around you and influence the technology as it moves towards real‑world use.
- Ambition with a funded foundation: Build on venture and SPRIN‑D backing to pursue technically demanding work with the potential to make molecular measurement more accessible and useful in healthcare.
