Job summary

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals invites applications for a Band 5/6 HCPC Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology based at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. The role works 37.5 hours per week, with shifts between 8am and 8pm, including weekends and bank holidays, with out-of-hours on-call for urgent samples.

The lab is UKAS accredited (ISO15189) and IBMS approved for training; experience in NHS laboratory settings is desirable.

Qualifications

• HCPC registered with significant experience in Microbiology.
• IBMS membership and continued professional development.
• Understanding of health and safety legislation in clinical laboratories.
• Knowledge of quality management systems in pathology.

Responsibilities

• Perform a range of laboratory tests autonomously.
• Work on a shift rota covering 24 hours, seven days a week.
• Participate in the on-call rota.
• Direct junior staff on technical and work issues.
• Assist with stock management and inventory control.
• Communicate results and information using IT systems.
