Job summary

IMS Recruitment is seeking a Biomedical Scientist for a 6-month fixed term contract in Gibraltar. The role involves analytical testing in Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Coagulation, with responsibilities including validation of results, blood grouping, antibody screening, crossmatching and donor serology.

Applicants must be HCPC registered and hold a BSc or higher degree in Biomedical Science, with at least 3 years’ relevant experience.

Qualifications

HCPC registration is required to practice in the UK.
BSc or higher degree in Biomedical Science is required.
At least 3 years’ experience in Haematology or Blood Transfusion.
Experience with quality management systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform analytical testing in Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Coagulation.
Validate and authorize patient results per lab policies.
Perform blood grouping, antibody screening, crossmatching and issue of blood components.
Investigate abnormal results and liaise with clinicians as needed.
Ensure compliance with quality systems and accreditation standards.
Calibrate analysers and perform QC procedures.
Participate in internal and external QA programmes.
Maintain documentation and health and safety standards.
Authorise complex transfusion decisions and resolve serological discrepancies.
Validate donor serology results for safe release of components.
Monitor blood component inventory daily and manage stock levels.
Develop and review SOPs following best practice and regulatory guidance.
