Job summary

IMS Recruitment seeks a Biomedical Scientist for a 6-month contract in Gibraltar to perform analytical testing in Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Coagulation. You will validate results, manage blood grouping, antibody screening, crossmatching, and ensure QA compliance.

The role requires HCPC registration, a BSc or higher in Biomedical Science, and at least 3 years’ experience in the field. Includes accommodation and flights, with start ASAP.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be registered with the UK’s HCPC.
• BSc or Higher Degree in Biomedical Science.
• At least 3 years’ experience in relevant specialism.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical testing in Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and Coagulation.
• Validate and authorize patient results in accordance with laboratory policies.
• Perform blood grouping, antibody screening, crossmatching, and issue of blood components.
• Investigate abnormal results and liaise with clinicians where necessary.
• Ensure compliance with quality management systems and accreditation standards.
• Perform analyser calibration, troubleshooting, and advanced quality control procedures.
• Participate in internal and external quality assurance programmes.
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to health and safety regulations.
• Authorise complex transfusion decisions, including investigation of transfusion reactions and resolution of serological discrepancies.
• Validate and authorise donor serology results, ensuring safe release of blood components in accordance with transfusion guidelines.
• Daily monitoring of blood component inventory and monitor stock levels
• Ensure full compliance with quality management systems, haemovigilance requirements, and accreditation standards.
• Develop, review, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in line with best practice and regulatory guidance.
