The Immunophenotyping Laboratory seeks an enthusiastic, responsible, and self-motivated HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to support the Southeast Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (SE-HMDS). This role offers opportunities to develop leadership and organisational skills and gain extensive experience in a leading haemato-oncology service. You will be part of a fast-paced, specialist referral flow cytometry lab, delivering advanced diagnostics for blood cancers in partnership with Southeast Genomic Laboratory Hub. Your flow cytometry expertise will support complex haematological cancer diagnostics and monitoring, contributing to a renowned regional service.
Applicants must be HCPC registered and have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio or Diploma of Specialist Practice, or possess equivalent experience/qualification if HCPC registration was gained via the pre-portfolio route. Preferably, candidates will have laboratory haematology/haemato-oncology and flow cytometry experience. If suitably qualified applicants are unavailable, we may consider HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientists without specialist qualifications but with relevant experience. Such candidates may be appointed at Pay Band 5 with potential for future development and progression.
This role involves contributing to patient care by selecting investigations, performing flow cytometry, analysing data, and preparing complex clinical reports. Excellent communication, time management, and a strong work ethic are essential to ensure timely reporting to facilitate rapid patient treatment. Key duties include sample and reagent handling, stock and document control, audits, supervision and training of personnel, performance monitoring, equipment maintenance, and supporting quality management to maintain UKAS standards.
