Job summary
Blackfield Associates is seeking an Associate Scientist / Research Scientist for a 12-month contract in its Drug Substance Process Sciences team. You will drive upstream process development for biologics, focusing on mammalian cell culture, scale-up and characterisation, using DoE and QbD approaches.

Qualifications
- MSc or equivalent with relevant discipline or BSc with industry experience.
- Experience in mammalian cell culture and biologics process development.
- Hands-on CHO cell culture and therapeutic protein production.
- Experience operating Ambr systems and/or lab-scale bioreactors.
- Knowledge of cell culture scale-up and process characterisation.
- Experience applying DoE and statistical data analysis tools.
- Strong scientific problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Automation, digital tools and data management experience advantageous.
- Understanding GMP/GSP, data integrity and quality requirements.
- Strong planning, organisational, communication and technical writing skills.
- Experience with perfusion/ATF, tech transfer or downstream processing advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Design, plan and execute upstream process development studies using DoE approaches.
- Perform mammalian cell culture experiments in shake flasks, Ambr systems and lab bioreactors.
- Analyse data, prepare reports, protocols and project summaries for stakeholders.
- Collaborate across Cell Line Development, Analytical Sciences and Manufacturing teams and support tech transfer.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, lab practices and evaluation of new technologies.
