Job summary

Astute is seeking a Biogas Maintenance Engineer to join a leading anaerobic digestion facility in the UK. You will perform planned and reactive maintenance on process plant, using CMMS, and work to maximise uptime and reliability while upholding safety standards.

The role requires mechanical/electrical qualification and strong fault-finding skills, with opportunities for training and development within a growing renewable energy business.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level3, HNC or equivalent).
  • Maintenance experience within industrial/manufacturing/process plant environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) using the site's CMMS system.
  • Respond to plant breakdowns with fault finding and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults across plant equipment.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and to a high standard.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term solutions to recurring issues.
  • Maximise plant availability, reliability and overall equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs in the CMMS.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and assist operations teams as needed.
  • Provide holiday cover for site operations when required.

Astute's Power Team is partnering with a leading organisation in the renewable energy sector to recruit a Biogas Maintenance Engineer for one of its UK anaerobic digestion facilities.

Responsibilities and duties of the Biogas Maintenance Engineer role
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) using the site's CMMS system.
  • Respond to plant breakdowns with effective fault finding and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults across a variety of process plant equipment.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term engineering solutions to recurring issues.
  • Maximise plant availability, reliability and overall equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, fault logs and work history within the CMMS.
  • Manage critical spare parts inventory and raise purchase requests when required.
  • Liaise with external contractors and coordinate specialist maintenance activities.
  • Assist the operations team with troubleshooting and provide operational support where required.
  • Provide holiday cover for site operations when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with company Health & Safety procedures and engineering legislation including DSEAR, PSSR, PUWER and LOLER where applicable.
  • Support site audits and contribute towards continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to occasional out-of-hours callouts when required.
Professional qualifications
  • Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level3, HNC or equivalent experience).
  • Proven maintenance experience within an industrial, manufacturing or process plant environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
