Job summary

Murphy in the United Kingdom is seeking a Bid Manager to join the Work Winning Proposals Team in Glasgow or Aberdeen. You will oversee the end-to-end tender process for major power infrastructure projects.

Lead bid strategies, coordinate cross-functional teams, review technical and commercial responses, manage client liaison and bid budgets, and keep abreast of energy market developments. A track record in large-scale EPC bids is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage High-Value Tenders: Oversee the full tendering process for major substation, underground cabling, and overhead line projects.
  • Develop Bid Strategies: Find the most effective approach for each tender, ensuring engineering solutions address the client's requirements.
  • Oversee Bid Teams: Arrange initial kick-off meetings and bring together engineering, estimating, project management, and health and safety stakeholders to support bid development.
  • Review Submission Content: Review, edit, and approve all technical and commercial responses to ensure accuracy, clarity, and quality.
  • Identify and Manage Risks: Identify financial, legal, and operational risks within bid documents and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Prepare Approval Documentation: Produce clear bid summaries and risk assessments to obtain governance approvals before submission.
  • Liaise with Clients: Act as the primary point of contact for client procurement teams throughout tender periods, clarification stages, and contract discussions.
  • Manage Supply Chain Pricing: Work with the procurement team to obtain firm, commercially attractive quotations from key subcontractors and major equipment suppliers.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Lead review meetings following successful and unsuccessful bids to identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor Industry Developments: Keep up to date with energy industry developments, grid connection requirements and renewable energy objectives to maintain high-quality submissions.
  • Manage Bid Budgets: Monitor the time and cost associated with developing each large-scale tender to ensure bid activities remain within approved budget parameters.

A day in the life of a Murphy Bid Manager

Working from our Glasgow or Aberdeen office, you will manage the entire tendering process from start to finish for major power infrastructure projects, including substation builds & extensions and underground cables.
