Job description

Location: Cheadle (hybrid working 3 office days per week)

Employment Type: Permanent, full time

Think the AA is just about roadside assistance? Think again.

For over a century, we've been evolving and adapting. Today, as the nation's leading motoring organisation, we offer a wide range of products and services to millions of customers. From roadside assistance to home and motor insurance, and the latest driving technologies, we have it all. As we continue to expand, diversify, and modernise, joining us as a BI Developer means you'll play a crucial role in our success and be part of this exciting motoring journey.

Our Chief Operating Office (COO) are the backbone of The AA, providing both stability and structure to support growth and innovation. We are the drivers of change.

This is the job

As a Power BI Developer, you’ll turn complex operational data into clear, actionable insight that helps our Roadside Operations teams make better decisions and deliver meaningful change. Working in a highly data literate area of the business, you’ll see your work come to life as your dashboards, analysis and insights are used to improve performance and customer outcomes.

This is a hands‑on technical role where success goes beyond building dashboards. You’ll work closely with stakeholders to understand and challenge requirements, uncover the real business need and bring data to life through compelling storytelling. You’ll create scalable, well governed Power BI solutions while helping shape how we use data and self‑service analytics across the business.

What will I be doing?
  • Design, develop and maintain scalable, high quality Power BI dashboards and semantic models that support strategic and operational decision making.
  • Partner with stakeholders to interrogate requirements, understand the business problem and translate complex needs into effective data and BI solutions.
  • Turn data into meaningful insight, using clear visualisation and storytelling to articulate findings and enable stakeholders to make informed decisions.
  • Develop and optimise reporting solutions, including DAX, Power Query, SQL, reporting pipelines and Power BI performance.
  • Work collaboratively with Data Engineering and the wider Data team to ensure data is appropriately structured, accessible and optimised for reporting and self‑service analytics.
  • Champion effective Power BI practices, including workspace governance, deployment, user experience and stakeholder adoption, while identifying opportunities to continuously improve our BI capability.
What do I need?
  • Strong hands‑on Power BI expertise, with demonstrable experience developing scalable solutions and strong capability across DAX, Power Query, semantic modelling and performance optimisation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to ask the right questions, challenge and refine requirements and translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
  • The ability to communicate and tell stories with data, turning complex analysis into clear, relevant insight for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong SQL capability and a solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing and BI architecture. Experience working with Databricks would be particularly valuable.
  • Experience creating robust reporting solutions, including automation, governance and enabling users through self‑service analytics.
  • A collaborative and curious approach, with the ability to work effectively across Data, Engineering and business teams while proactively identifying opportunities to solve problems and drive change.
