Job description

At Arriva, we're connecting communities across the UK and Europe through safe, reliable and sustainable transport. Operating in 11 countries and delivering more than 1.5 billion passenger journeys each year, we're on an exciting journey as we continue to evolve our business and invest in our future.

As part of this, we're looking for a BI Developer to join our growing data team and help shape how data is used across the organisation.

The Opportunity

Data plays a critical role in helping Arriva make informed decisions and improve business performance. As a BI Developer, you'll transform complex data into meaningful insights through intuitive dashboards, reports and self-service analytics solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with analytical thinking, problem solving and stakeholder engagement.

Reporting to the Lead BI Developer, you'll be supported in developing your expertise while progressively increasing your ownership and impact across a variety of BI solutions.

We offer hybrid working, with this role based from our London, Sunderland or Thurmaston office. You'll spend a minimum of three days per week on site, with the remaining time working wherever you can best deliver for your customers while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Designing and developing dashboards, reports and self-service analytics solutions using tools such as Amazon QuickSight, Power BI or Tableau
  • Translating business requirements into clear, intuitive visualisations and actionable insights
  • Automating recurring and manual reporting processes, reducing reliance on spreadsheets and ad hoc reporting
  • Applying best practice principles in data visualisation, accessibility, user experience and storytelling
  • Collaborating with the BI Engineering team to understand data models, KPI definitions and data pipelines
  • Validating data accuracy, performing testing and supporting performance optimisation of BI solutions
  • Creating and maintaining documentation, including dashboards, metrics and user guidance
  • Supporting self-service analytics adoption across the business
  • Working with stakeholders to understand business needs and identify opportunities to enhance reporting and insight
  • Contributing to continuous improvement by exploring new BI tools, techniques and best practices
  • Ensuring BI products adhere to governance and security principles
What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who are passionate about data and can communicate insights in a clear, engaging and meaningful way.

You’ll Ideally Bring
  • Hands-on experience with BI tools, with QuickSight experience preferred and Power BI exposure beneficial
  • A strong understanding of dashboard and reporting development principles
  • Knowledge of data visualisation best practices, including chart selection, usability and visual hierarchy
  • Working knowledge of SQL for querying and analysing data
  • Experience of, or a developing capability in, enabling self-service analytics
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail, curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Experience working within a collaborative BI, analytics or data team environment
  • Exposure to Python, HTML, CSS or JavaScript for analytics, automation or dashboard customisation would be advantageous

If you're passionate about turning data into insight and want to play a key role in helping colleagues make better, data-driven decisions, we'd love to hear from you.
