Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is seeking a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision in Worthing, supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviours in a supportive setting.

You will build relationships, help students engage with learning, and maintain safe, structured boundaries both in and outside lessons. A resilient, patient approach is essential, with prior education or youth work experience advantageous.

Are you passionate about supporting young people who have found mainstream education challenging?

We are currently looking for a resilient, patient and proactive Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision in Worthing. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships with young people and helping them make positive changes in their education and behaviour.

The Role

You will be supporting students who may present with challenging behaviour, social and emotional needs, low engagement or difficulties regulating their emotions. The role is about much more than classroom support you'll be helping students feel understood, supported and able to succeed.

You’ll work closely with teaching staff to:

• Build positive and trusting relationships with students
• Support students to regulate their emotions and manage behaviour
• Encourage engagement with learning and help students recognise their potential
• Provide consistent boundaries and positive reinforcement
• De-escalate challenging situations calmly and confidently
• Support students both in and outside of the classroom
• Help create a safe, structured and positive environment

• Able to build rapport while maintaining clear boundaries
• Resilient and able to remain composed in difficult situations
• Passionate about giving young people a fresh start and helping them re‑engage with education
• Experienced in education, youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring or a similar environment

Experience within an Alternative Provision, SEMH setting or with challenging behaviour is desirable, but not essential the right attitude and ability to build positive relationships are just as important.
