Behaviour Support Worker
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: September 2025
GSL Education are seeking a Complex Needs Support Worker to work at a Client Secondary school for students with additional needs in York, starting in September 2025.
About the School:
- With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
- Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
- The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
- The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
- The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
- One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.
Behaviour Support Worker Responsibilities:
- Support students with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.
- Assist in implementing individual behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies.
- Provide in-class support to help students access learning and develop positive routines.
- Deliver focused intervention.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Build trusting, consistent relationships with students.
Behaviour Support Worker Requirements:
- Experience working with young people with behavioural challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Training in Team Teach or similar behaviour support strategies is advantageous.
- Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
