Job description

Job Description:

A specialist school in Skelmersdale is seeking individuals with experience supporting students in their learning. If you are passionate about supporting young people, especially students requiring further development in their learning, this could be the role for you. The school caters to primary-aged children with SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health needs), as well as other needs such as autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties. The role involves managing challenging behaviour, so previous experience with de-escalation techniques is required. The school is smaller than average, with around 50 pupils and small class sizes (6-12 pupils).

As a Teaching Assistant specialising in SEMH, you should be reliable, resilient, and supportive. Experience with behaviour management and de-escalation techniques is necessary; training in techniques like Team Teach is desirable but not essential. The role may involve working 1-1 with pupils based on the relationships you develop. It is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, starting in September 2024, with potential for a permanent role for the right candidate.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding in schools
  • High expectations of student behaviour and strategies for challenging behaviour
  • Experience working with children with SEND and SEMH needs
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or vulnerable adults with SEND or SEMH needs
  • Understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation
  • Strong work ethic and full-time availability
Application Details:

If interested, contact John Boddington at 01772 540 740 ext. 3005 and click the apply button. If you know someone suitable, you can refer them and receive £150 shopping vouchers when we place them.

This is a temporary position unless stated otherwise. Axcis is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding children and young people. You will need to provide an up-to-date DBS or allow Axcis to process one on your behalf, along with other compliance checks.

Axcis Education offers temporary, short-term, long-term, and permanent roles. You must be qualified and prepared for a face-to-face interview. Salary depends on skills and experience.
