Behaviour Support Specialist – Secondary School – Maidstone
Full-Time | Long-Term | Start ASAP

Are you an experienced Support Worker or Teaching Assistant with a passion for helping children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or challenging behaviour? One of our large and well-regarded secondary schools in Maidstone is seeking a Behaviour Support Specialist to lead within their Inclusion Unit.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a long-term, full-time role, making a real difference in the lives of students who require tailored emotional and behavioural support to succeed in their education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead behaviour management within the school’s inclusion setting, working closely with students who display high levels of need.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional regulation and reduce behavioural incidents.
  • Deliver personalised interventions and support strategies in 1:1 and small group settings.
  • Support students with a range of SEND, including SEMH, autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to implement effective support plans.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and report changes or concerns to the SENCO or relevant professionals.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment that promotes resilience and independence.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour and/or SEND is essential.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
  • A positive, compassionate, and resilient approach to working with vulnerable students.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in working collaboratively within a school team.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Health & Social Care, or Youth Work are desirable.
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check (on the update service).
