Job description

Teacher Active is proud to collaborate with schools in Stoke-on-Trent that support vulnerable children and students (ages 10-16) with Autism and SEMH needs, ranging from Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) to Challenging behaviour.

Building and strengthening healthy relationships with teachers enables the schools to achieve outstanding performance and outcomes for their students.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
  1. Working with students, teachers, and therapists to develop personalized support plans.
  2. Implementing strategies to de-escalate challenging situations and promote a safe learning environment.
  3. Assisting teachers in developing and delivering engaging lessons tailored to individual students' abilities, learning styles, and needs.
  4. Providing 1:1 and group learning support to students with additional needs.
  5. Supporting students' physical, social, and mental welfare by creating a safe environment and adapting your support as needed.

The schools seek a dedicated and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant for both Day-to-Day and long-term placements. They offer valuable experience to help you grow as a teacher, with pay at market-leading rates. Our experienced SEND Consultants will find placements that match your availability, preferences, and skills.

Ideal candidate requirements include:
  • Level 3 qualification and/or at least 6 months experience in an educational setting
  • A calm, patient, and caring demeanor
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of child protection and safeguarding guidelines
  • Experience supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Effective behaviour management skills
  • Good communication with internal staff
