Job description

Behaviour Support Assistant

Location: Birmingham

Duration: Full time, ongoing

Salary: £85 – £100 per day

The School/Role:

An amazing special needs school in Birmingham is currently looking for a full-time behaviour support assistant. The school is a community special school with students with SEMH needs, requiring thorough assessments to accurately identify and understand the social, emotional, and mental health needs of all pupils, ensuring that each individual’s unique challenges and strengths are recognised and addressed.

This role will include supporting teachers with material preparation for lessons, assisting with displays, and providing direct 1-on-1 or small group student support.

The ideal candidate for a Behaviour Support Assistant role should:

  • Demonstrate experience or a strong interest in supporting children with SEMH.
  • Possess prior experience collaborating within the SEMH Department.
  • Exhibit flexibility, proactivity, and patience.
  • Show nurturing and compassionate qualities in their approaches.
  • Communicate effectively within a team.

A new enhanced DBS will be needed for this role or a subscription to the DBS update service.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teaching Assistant OR Relevant SEN Background.
  • PECS and Makaton training/experience.
  • SEMH needs experience.
  • Level 1 safeguarding certificate.
  • Recent school-based references.
  • Valid Photo ID – Driving Licence or passport.
  • Full DBS – on the update service.
