Job summary

London Borough of Brent is recruiting a Behaviour Specialist to promote positive behaviour and inclusion for pupils across Brent. This fixed‑term role (36 months) is based at Brent Civic Centre and other locations, with term‑time hours (36 hours full‑time or 18 hours part‑time across 39 weeks).

You will work with primary and secondary settings, support pupils with SEBD, and partner with families and agencies to reduce exclusions and improve engagement.

Qualifications

• We are looking for a resilient, empathetic practitioner with a Level 3 qualification (or equivalent).
• Experience with pupils who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD) and at risk of exclusion.
• Excellent communication and ability to build trusting relationships.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of pupils and deliver targeted interventions addressing behavioural, emotional and engagement needs.
• Work with schools, families and multi‑agency partners to improve outcomes and promote inclusive practice.
• Develop personalised support programmes for pupils at risk of exclusion.
• Support reintegration into mainstream education from alternative provision or after absences.
• Provide one‑to‑one mentoring and support for vulnerable pupils.
• Contribute to training and development for school staff on behaviour support strategies.
• Monitor pupil progress, evaluate intervention impact, and maintain records/reports.
• Provide wraparound support for complex cases to ensure successful outcomes.

The Role

We are seeking a committed and skilled Behaviour Specialist to support schools in promoting positive behaviour, strengthening inclusion and helping to prevent exclusion for children and young people.

This is a rewarding and hands‑on role working across primary and secondary schools, as well as alternative provision settings. You will work directly with pupils experiencing social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD), delivering targeted interventions and support that help remove barriers to learning and improve engagement, attendance and outcomes.

You will play a key role in helping children and young people remain connected to education, supporting schools to create inclusive environments where every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Key responsibilities

• Managing a caseload of pupils and delivering targeted interventions to address behavioural, emotional and engagement needs
• Working closely with schools, families and multi‑agency partners to improve outcomes and promote inclusive practice
• Developing and implementing personalised support programmes for pupils at risk of exclusion
• Supporting reintegration into mainstream education from alternative provision or following periods of absence
• Providing one‑to‑one mentoring and support for vulnerable pupils
• Contributing to training and development for school staff to strengthen behaviour support strategies
• Monitoring pupil progress and evaluating the impact of interventions, maintaining accurate records and reports
• Providing flexible wraparound support for complex cases to ensure successful outcomes

The Person

We are looking for a resilient, empathetic and proactive practitioner with experience supporting children and young people with behavioural and emotional needs.

You will

• Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification (or equivalent), alongside a strong understanding of child development and behaviour
• Have experience working with pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, including those at risk of exclusion
• Be confident working within schools and alongside a range of multi‑agency professionals
• Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships
• Have experience planning and delivering targeted interventions that support behaviour change and engagement
• Be able to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging situations
• Have strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload
• Be committed to safeguarding, inclusion and improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people
• Be flexible, solution‑focused and able to work collaboratively as part of a wider team
