Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a Behaviour Mentor / Teaching Assistant for a Primary School in Harlow. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with behavioural, emotional and social needs, helping with regulation and learning engagement.

The role offers competitive daily rates (£93-£115) and CPD training access; you will join a supportive team, work closely with SENCOs and staff, and contribute to a calm, inclusive classroom culture.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEN/SEMH and challenging behaviour.
• Ability to implement behaviour management strategies.
• Strong communication and patient approach.
• Calm, consistent and supportive in difficult situations.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with behavioural, emotional and additional needs.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent and positive role model.
• Support students with emotional regulation, self-management and positive behaviour choices.
• Implement agreed behaviour management and intervention strategies consistently.
• Use de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques when supporting students in challenging situations.
• Identify potential triggers and help pupils develop strategies to manage their behaviour and emotions.
• Support pupils to re-engage with learning following incidents of dysregulation or challenging behaviour.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to provide consistent support.
• Encourage students to develop confidence, independence and positive relationships with staff and peers.
• Maintain a calm, structured and inclusive environment where students feel safe and supported.
