Red Star Pathways is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor for a secondary school in Hackney. You will provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring to students with behavioural and emotional needs, building positive relationships and supporting their emotional regulation and engagement in learning.

The role involves collaborating with teachers and safeguarding teams to identify barriers to learning, monitor progress and contribute to a positive school culture.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people, ideally in a secondary school or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour and challenges affecting engagement in education.
  • Calm, patient, resilient, and positive in challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish professional boundaries while building positive relationships.
  • Confident in managing challenging behaviour using restorative approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring to students with behavioural, emotional, and social needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships and act as a supportive role model.
  • Support students to understand and manage their emotions and behaviour.
  • Help students develop strategies to improve engagement with learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCO and leaders to identify barriers to learning.
  • Support students at risk of exclusion or disengagement and deliver targeted interventions.
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records; support individual behaviour plans.

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join our secondary school in Hackney. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic professional who is committed to improving outcomes for young people and creating a positive, inclusive school environment.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students who may require additional support with behaviour, emotional regulation, engagement and attendance. You will build positive, trusting relationships with students and provide consistent, supportive interventions that help them make positive choices and succeed in school.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group mentoring to students with behavioural, emotional and social needs.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students, acting as a consistent and positive role model.
  • Supporting students to understand and manage their emotions and behaviour.
  • Helping students develop strategies to make positive choices and improve their engagement with learning.
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCO and senior leaders to identify and address barriers to learning.
  • Supporting students who may be at risk of exclusion or disengagement from education.
  • Delivering targeted behaviour interventions and mentoring sessions.
  • Monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate records.
  • Supporting the implementation of individual behaviour and support plans.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, high expectations and a culture of respect across the school.
  • Supporting students during lessons, social times and periods of heightened behaviour when required.
About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people, ideally within a secondary school or similar setting.
  • Has a strong understanding of behaviour and the challenges that can affect young people's engagement with education.
  • Is calm, patient, resilient and able to remain positive in challenging situations.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can establish strong professional boundaries while developing positive relationships with students.
  • Is confident managing challenging behaviour using a consistent and restorative approach.
  • Can work effectively as part of a wider pastoral and safeguarding team.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Has high expectations of students and genuinely believes in their ability to succeed.
