I’m looking to hear from people interested in Behaviour Mentor, Engagement Support and Teaching Assistant opportunities within SEND and SEMH settings across East Sussex.
I work with schools around Hailsham, Eastbourne, Hastings, Battle, Lewes and surrounding areas, supporting primary and secondary pupils.
Depending on the setting, you could be:
Helping pupils engage with lessons and school routines
Supporting emotional regulation and positive relationships
Providing individual or small-group support
Helping pupils return to learning after difficult moments
Reinforcing clear, consistent boundaries
Working alongside teaching and pastoral teams
The work can be challenging. You’ll need to respond thoughtfully, follow school guidance and recognise when a pupil needs a different approach.
Some roles require previous SEND or SEMH experience. Others may suit people from youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring, alternative provision or mainstream education.
Being able to build rapport matters, alongside reliability, appropriate boundaries and a willingness to learn from the team around you.
Before recruitment, I worked within SEND education myself. We’ll talk properly about your experience and the environments that could suit your strengths.
Teaching Assistant and LSA opportunities are paid from £92.60 per day. Rates for other support roles depend on the position and responsibilities. CPD and professional development are available.
You’ll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If you don’t currently hold one, you’ll need to apply through us and join the Update Service. I’ll support you through the process, with the associated cost covered by the applicant.
We’ll also require your full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible, prioritising recent and relevant employment.
I’d be happy to discuss how your skills could transfer into SEND and SEMH support.
