Behaviour & Classroom Lead

Do you have experience in coaching, youth work, mentoring or tutoring — or are you hoping to become a teacher and looking for the perfect next step?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Behaviour & Classroom Lead to join a welcoming secondary school in the Newport area. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact by supporting pupils aged 11–16.

The school has a strong culture of teamwork, inclusion and mutual respect, and pupils and staff take pride in being part of its vibrant community. You will also support the school’s well-established ALN provision for pupils with learning difficulties. This nurturing setting offers tailored interventions that help pupils make strong progress from their starting points.

About the Role

As the Behaviour & Classroom Lead, you will supervise classes during short-term teacher absences, ensuring pupils stay engaged, focused, and on task. Strong subject knowledge is an advantage—whether your strengths lie in maths, science, English or another subject, there will be opportunities to use them when covering lessons. You will also support general classroom cover across the school; all lessons are pre-planned for you, so your focus is on behaviour management, engagement and ensuring work is completed.

You will need to be:

  • Confident, adaptable and proactive when supervising classes across KS3 & KS4
  • Able to create a positive, focused learning environment
  • Comfortable covering any classroom and subject when required
  • Professional, reliable and committed to supporting pupils’ success
  • Confident applying behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
Who This Role Is Ideal For

This is a brilliant opportunity for:

  • Graduates or students studying a relevant qualification
  • Aspiring teachers or trainee teachers looking to gain classroom experience
  • Individuals with experience in coaching, mentoring, youth work, military service, leadership or supervisory roles
  • Anyone looking to develop strong behaviour management and classroom leadership skills

No teaching qualification is required, but you must be able to discuss your relevant experience or academic background at interview and complete full vetting checks.

This role is a fantastic stepping stone into education, offering valuable experience within a supportive and well-structured school environment.

Requirements
  • Experience working with young people (education, coaching, youth work, mentoring etc.)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)
  • EWC registration (or willingness to obtain)
  • Must be 18+
  • Strong understanding of the school curriculum and core subjects
  • A genuine interest in education and supporting young people
