JDR Recruitment is seeking a Beef & Sheep Adviser in Newry for a Northern Ireland Civil Service assignment with DAERA / CAFRE. The role involves working with beef and sheep farmers to improve performance, profitability, sustainability and technology adoption.

The role requires an Honours Degree in Agriculture, strong technical knowledge in beef/sheep production, and transport to meet travel needs. Hybrid working is available; evening/night work may occur.

Beef & Sheep Adviser – Newry (BEEFS82075) Newry & Mourne, Northern Ireland

Salary: GBP21.35 - GBP21.35 per hour

Location: Glenree House, Newry
Pay: Approx. £21.35 per hour
Hours: 37 hours | Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
Contract: Temporary assignment – 23 November 2026 to 30 June 2027
Hybrid working: Available
Some evening/night work may be required

The successful candidate will work directly with beef and sheep farmers, supporting improvements in farm performance, profitability, sustainability and the adoption of new technologies.

The Role

You will:

• Manage discussion groups for beef and sheep farmers.
• Plan and facilitate farmer group meetings.
• Review farm sustainability and profitability performance against benchmarks.
• Encourage adoption of new agricultural technologies.
• Provide technical support to CAFRE Knowledge Transfer & Innovation Schemes.

Applicants must have:

Previous experience working directly with farmers or farmer groups would be advantageous.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate will be required to complete the relevant pre-employment checks and obtain Enhanced security clearance.
