Job summary

Belfast International Airport Ltd. is seeking a Building and Civil Engineering Maintenance Operative to help keep the airport’s structures and services well maintained.

The role emphasises personal safety, high standards of housekeeping, and excellent customer service within a safety‑critical airfield environment. You will perform airside grass cutting and general maintenance, following training and competency assessments, including RT training where applicable, and coordinate closely with Air

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance and grass cutting on the airfield and inside the terminal building as required.
• Perform minor plumbing, carpentry, surfacing repairs and painting to maintain facilities.
• Repair and maintain domestic water, storm and foul services and fire equipment.
• Coordinate movements with Air Traffic Control and assist in emergency situations as directed.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and company procedures at all times.

Job Title: Building and Civil Engineering Maintenance Operative

Department: B&CE

Reporting to: Building & Civil Engineering Asset Manager

Salary: £27,429 per annum

Hours of work: 39 hours per week

Monday – Thursday 8.00 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.

Friday 8.00 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.

Job Purpose:

To support the department in ensuring that the company’s structures and services are efficiently maintained; personal safety and good housekeeping standards are as per Company Policy and Procedures; and to offer excellent customer service at all times.

Job Duties:

1. Due to the safety-critical nature of working within the airfield environment, this role requires the ability to communicate effectively and continuously with Air Traffic Control (ATC) throughout all airside activities. Following the successful completion of the required training and competency assessments, including Radio Telephony (RT) training where applicable, the post holder must maintain the necessary communication standards to safely coordinate movements and comply with ATC instructions at all times.
2. Carry out maintenance and grass cutting on the airfield to comply with the Company Grass policy & Environment Policy, with the use of tractor combination equipment. This will entail, after sufficient training, having the ability to constantly communicate with air traffic control for the duration of the grass management.
3. Support general maintenance as required both; within the terminal building and on the airfield including but not limited to;
   • Minor plumbing repairs;
   • Small joinery & carpentry works;
   • Minor surfacing repairs airside;
   • Maintenance of furniture;
   • Undertake laying of floor coverings;
   • Preparation and painting of interior and exterior walls;
   • Repair and replacement of fire equipment;
   • Repair and maintenance of domestic water, storm and foul services.
4. Attend to and resolve oil spillage’s and other materials on the airfield that would compromise operational functions.
5. Operate any necessary machinery / vehicles as required for the needs of the business and to provide airside services such as Airside escorts, RT cover, snow clearance and any other reasonable tasks as requested
6. Assist in the event of an emergency situation as directed by the Operations Duty Management Team
7. Ensure that all Statutory and Company regulations regarding health and safety, fire and security are followed to protect airport users, staff members and the business interests of the Company
