Job summary

BBC Operations Engineer is sought to join the Digital 24/7 Operations team. This hybrid contract role requires on-site presence in Glasgow or Manchester four days every five weeks and runs until 31 March 2027.

The engineer will provide 24/7 AWS and on-premise support, monitor incidents, manage outages to SLA, document investigations per ITIL, and communicate with stakeholders while driving service improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience in 1st/2nd line support environments.
• Strong AWS operational support experience.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes and incident management.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational support across AWS and on‑premise platforms on a 24/7 shift rota.
• Use monitoring and diagnostic tools to investigate and resolve service impacting incidents.
• Manage incidents from logging to resolution while meeting SLA requirements.
• Document incidents and investigations in line with ITIL best practice.
• Communicate technical issues effectively to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Support service improvements through documentation and process enhancements.
• Ensure effective handover of incidents between shifts.

BBC OPERATIONS ENGINEER, INSIDE IR35, HYBRID

My client, the BBC, is seeking an experienced Operations Engineer to join their Digital 24/7 Operations team. This is a hybrid contract role with candidates required onsite 4 days every 5 weeks at either the Glasgow (G51 1DA) or Manchester (M50 2EQ) location. The contract runs until 31/03/2027 and is paying £450 per day inside IR35.

As a member of the 24/7 Operations team, you will be responsible for supporting critical BBC digital services including News, Sport, Weather, iPlayer, Sounds and other high-profile online platforms. You will play a key role in identifying, managing and resolving operational incidents across both AWS and on-premise environments.

Responsibilities:

• Provide operational support across AWS and on-premise platforms on a 24/7 shift rota.
• Use monitoring and diagnostic tools to investigate and resolve service impacting incidents.
• Manage incidents from initial logging through to resolution while adhering to SLA requirements.
• Accurately document incidents and investigation activities in line with ITIL best practice.
• Communicate technical issues effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support service improvements through documentation, process enhancement and operational development initiatives.
• Ensure effective handover of incidents and operational activities between shifts.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Experience within a 1st and/or 2nd Line Support environment.
• Strong AWS operational support experience.
• Experience using Jira.(Client requirement).
• Knowledge of Networking and IP Networking concepts.
• Linux command line experience.
• Experience managing and prioritising incidents within an operational environment.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes and best practice.
• Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Experience:

• Experience with monitoring and diagnostic tools such as CloudWatch, Splunk or Grafana.
• Knowledge of web architecture and CDNs.
• VMware or other on-premise infrastructure experience.
