Job summary

University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK, seeks a researcher to advance the FLOWCAT project on continuous flow synthesis of cathode precursors and materials. You will synthesize and characterise cathode materials and prepare/battery cells for electrochemical testing.

The role involves developing research with potential bids, supervising students, writing publications, and contributing to the project’s broader research programme. Fixed term up to March 2027.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or near completion) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • High level analytical capability.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • Fluent understanding of battery materials synthesis via co-precipitation, characterization by EM, XRD and electrochemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research with mentor support.
  • Contribute to writing bids for research funding.
  • Analyse and interpret data.
  • Disseminate research findings in publications and seminars.
  • Supervise students and guide PhD researchers where appropriate.
  • Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods.
  • Manage administration arising from research and project activities.
