Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a highly organised Barrack Damage Manager to join the team at Merville Barracks, Colchester. The role manages damage assessment, inspections, and repairs across 127 buildings and 2,500 soldiers’ accommodation spaces, coordinating with contractors and military stakeholders to ensure safety and compliance.

You will oversee inspections, create detailed reports, and monitor maintenance progress, while maintaining records to support governance and cost tracking.

Qualifications

• Experience in administration, facilities support, accommodation services, or maintenance coordination.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Experience conducting inspections and maintaining accurate records.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and administrative systems.
• Understanding of workplace health & safety requirements.
• Experience operating at unit/department manager level OR Level 4/5 qualification (or equivalent).
• Desirable: Defence, government, or compliance-led environments.
• Experience in damage management or contractor coordination.
• Knowledge of facilities maintenance and repair processes.
• Familiarity with maintenance or asset management systems.
• Understanding of Armed Forces procedures and accommodation standards.
• Qualification in facilities management, property services, administration, or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Inspections & damage assessment of blocks and facilities.
• Investigate reported incidents and assess repair requirements.
• Produce detailed inspection reports, photographs, and condition assessments.
• Monitor recurring or high-risk building issues.
• Coordinate repairs and maintenance through the helpdesk system.
• Liaise with contractors, facilities teams, and service providers.
• Track repair progress and ensure timely completion.
• Monitor contractor performance and service delivery standards.
• Maintain accurate inspection reports, damage registers, and correspondence.
• Produce reports on repair trends, building conditions, and outstanding issues.
• Support data management and system updates.
• Liaise with military accommodation teams and stakeholders regarding damages and repairs.
• Provide guidance on accommodation standards and reporting procedures.
