Job summary

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is seeking a Catering Assistant to join its busy university catering operation. Based in one of LJMU's retail outlets, you will handle beverages, food prep and cash transactions, supporting high-quality service for students, staff and visitors.

You will work on an annualised 1,230-hour contract (0.80709 FTE) with shifts between 7.00am and 8.00pm, contributing to a safe, hygienic environment and smooth daily operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering, hospitality, retail or customer-facing environment.
• Barista experience would be advantageous, though training is provided.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for diverse customers.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve barista-style coffees and other beverages to a high standard.
• Provide friendly, professional and welcoming service to students, staff and visitors.
• Operate cashless and cash payment systems, handling transactions accurately.
• Undertake basic food preparation and presentation per recipes and standards.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and personal hygiene.
• Ensure food is stored and served in line with safety and allergen procedures.
• Keep service areas clean, tidy and well-presented throughout trading.
• Support stock rotation, waste management and general housekeeping.
